Getting Started

Vuleo comes in two parts.

  • Vuleo Player plays your M3U or Xtream Codes sources. It shows live TV, movies and series. It runs on phones, tablets, Android TV, Fire TV and computers.
  • Vuleo Server is optional. It runs on your computer. It turns a folder of media files into a source for Vuleo Player.

Vuleo Player is available on these platforms:

  • Android (phones, tablets, Android TV)
  • Windows
  • Mac, as a direct download
  • Your web browser, with PRO

The iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV apps are temporarily unavailable on the App Store. Until the apps return, you can use the browser player on iPhone and iPad and save it to your Home Screen. On a Mac, download Vuleo for Mac.

Vuleo Server runs on these platforms:

  • Windows
  • Linux
  1. Download and run Vuleo Server on your computer
  2. Add your media folders or import M3U playlists
  3. The server will display connection credentials
  4. Download Vuleo Player on your device
  5. Enter the server credentials in the Player app
  6. Start streaming your content

No. Vuleo plays media you have the right to access, and needs no Vuleo account. You can buy PRO with any email address. If you turn on Cloud Sync, it stores your data in Google Drive, Dropbox or a WebDAV server.

Yes, Vuleo is under active development. New features and fixes are released regularly. Send feature requests and feedback to support@vuleo.tv.

Content & Playlists

Vuleo supports most common video formats, including these:

  • MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV, WMV
  • HLS streams (.m3u8)
  • MPEG-TS streams (.ts)
  • RTMP, RTSP streams

Supported audio codecs include AAC, MP3, AC3, DTS and FLAC.

Yes, you can add as many playlists as you like. Vuleo merges them into one library. You can switch each playlist on or off separately.

No, Vuleo is only a media player and organizer. It does not provide, host, link to, or distribute any media content. You supply the media files or playlists, and you must have the legal right to access the content they contain.

Categories come from your folder structure or your playlist metadata. In an M3U playlist they come from the group-title attribute. You can hide the categories you do not use. With PRO, you can also reorder them by drag and drop.

Player Features

Yes, Vuleo saves your position in the movies and episodes you watch. Next time, playback continues from that point. This feature is free for everyone. PRO adds Cloud Sync, which carries that position to your other devices.

Yes, these are the three TV options:

  • Apple TV: Vuleo is temporarily unavailable on the App Store
  • Android TV: Download Vuleo from Google Play on your Android TV
  • Chromecast: Cast from your phone to Chromecast devices (PRO feature)

Yes, with PRO you can download from your sources for offline playback. Downloads delete themselves after 30 days. You manage them in the Downloads section.

Yes, with PRO. Open a program in the guide and choose Record. You can also press Record in the live player or set a timer. Recordings play only in Vuleo, on the device that made them. They delete themselves 30 days after the program ends. Recording works on Android, Android TV, Fire TV, Windows and Mac. The browser player does not record.

Yes, Vuleo reads embedded subtitle tracks. You can switch between them in the player controls during playback.

The EPG shows the schedule for live channels. If your playlist includes an EPG URL, Vuleo shows current and upcoming programs. You can see what is on now and what comes next. On a TV or computer, the highlighted channel plays in a small preview window.

PRO Features

  • Chromecast: Cast content to your TV
  • Cloud Sync: Sync watch progress and favorites across devices via Google Drive
  • Downloads: Save from your sources for offline playback
  • Recordings: Record a program from the guide and watch it later on the same device
  • Catch-Up TV: Play catch-up from the guide, where your source offers it
  • Multi-View: Up to four live channels on one screen, as your source allows
  • Trakt and Simkl: Scrobble, sync your history and see your watchlist
  • EPG Search: Search through the program guide
  • Category Order: Hide, move and reorder categories
  • External Ratings: IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic

Cloud Sync keeps your watch progress, favorites and settings in your Google Drive. If you sign in with the same Google account on another device, your data syncs there. Your data stays in your Drive. We do not keep a copy of it.

Yes, one purchase covers every platform, including the browser player. On a new device, choose “I already have Vuleo PRO”. Approve it from a device that already has PRO. Or type the code we send to the email you paid with. Paid with your Google address? Signing in with Google works too. The iPhone and iPad apps are unavailable for now, so use the browser player there.

In Vuleo, choose “I already have Vuleo PRO” (on a phone, “Restore purchases”). Then use the email you paid with, or approve the device from another one. Did you buy in the App Store or on Google Play? Sign in with that same Apple ID or Google account, then tap “Restore purchases”. On iPhone and iPad, use the browser player until the app returns.

Troubleshooting

These are common reasons why a stream does not play:

  • Invalid URL: The URL may be wrong, or the source may no longer serve it
  • Network issues: Check your internet connection
  • Server offline: The source server may be offline
  • Unsupported format: Some DRM-protected content is not supported

Test the connection in the playlist settings. You can also try a different stream to find where the problem is.

These steps can make the app faster:

  • Clear the image cache in Settings
  • Disable playlists you are not using
  • Restart the app
  • For very large playlists (10,000+ items), performance may vary by device

Go to Settings and look for "Clear All Data" or "Reset App". This removes all playlists, watch progress and settings. On mobile, you can also uninstall and reinstall the app.

By default, categories keep the order of your playlist. To change the order, use the sort button on the category screen. The button shows a three-line icon. The options include Default (playlist order), Most Items, A-Z and Custom. The Custom option is a PRO feature.

Posters, descriptions and ratings come from TVDB. When TVDB has no entry for a title, Vuleo shows only what your playlist supplied. This happens most with regional and lesser-known content.

Privacy & Security

Yes, your data is private, with one exception. Vuleo keeps your data on your device. With Cloud Sync, the data goes to your Google Drive account. It does not go to a server of ours. We have no access to your playlists, your source credentials or your watch history.

The exception is a title's IMDb ID. Our server receives it when you open the title's detail screen. This is because our server fetches the ratings. To stop this, turn off External Ratings in Settings. The Privacy Policy explains this in full.

Yes, set a PIN in Settings and then lock the categories you want. A locked category asks for the PIN before it opens. This is useful for parental controls or for privacy.

We collect anonymous crash reports and basic usage statistics. We do not collect what you watch or what is in your playlists. Ratings lookups send a title's IMDb ID to our server. The Privacy Policy describes this under Metadata Services. The policy also gives the full list of what we collect.
